Red Cross First Aid Instructor Course

People interested in becoming a Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Minimum qualifications must be met.

Course Prerequisite:

  • 18 Years of Age
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid & HCP CPR certification
  • Successful completion of a pre-course skills evaluation
  • Practical First Aid and Public Speaking experience is desirable but not required

Content:

 

  • Standard First Aid & CPR skill testing (Pre-course)
  • The Red Cross 
  • How People Learn 
  • Instructional Techniques 
  • Organizing the courses
  • Specific Course Content - First Aid, CPR, AED, Child Care, Marine 

Completion Criteria

  • Comprehend & demonstrate excellent First Aid, CPR, and AED skills 
  • Meet all course evaluation criteria
  • Successfully complete the practise teaching required in the course
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Legal Responsibilities and Health Teaching Practices
  • Pass a knowledge evaluation with a minimum of 80% 

Post Course Requirements

  • Observe a course and co-teach a course (possibly 2 courses) 
  • Co-teach must be completed within 6 months to 1 year
  • Candidate is required to teach 50% of the full course content for their co-teach and must be present for 100% of the course time
