People interested in becoming a Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Minimum qualifications must be met.
Course Prerequisite:
- 18 Years of Age
- Hold a current Standard First Aid & HCP CPR certification
- Successful completion of a pre-course skills evaluation
- Practical First Aid and Public Speaking experience is desirable but not required
Content:
- Standard First Aid & CPR skill testing (Pre-course)
- The Red Cross
- How People Learn
- Instructional Techniques
- Organizing the courses
- Specific Course Content - First Aid, CPR, AED, Child Care, Marine
Completion Criteria
- Comprehend & demonstrate excellent First Aid, CPR, and AED skills
- Meet all course evaluation criteria
- Successfully complete the practise teaching required in the course
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Legal Responsibilities and Health Teaching Practices
- Pass a knowledge evaluation with a minimum of 80%
Post Course Requirements
- Observe a course and co-teach a course (possibly 2 courses)
- Co-teach must be completed within 6 months to 1 year
- Candidate is required to teach 50% of the full course content for their co-teach
and must be present for 100% of the course time
